If we were on a date, would you be offended by this?
I (F22) went on a first date with a woman (F20), whom I met on Hinge. We went to a market, then afterwards we had some drinks on a terrace. It was going fantastic, great conversation, solid eye contact, and she laughed excessively at my miserable jokes, even touched my thigh, etc. When the night was nearing its end, we took a little stroll around the city. She had come directly from university, meaning she was carrying a bit of a heftier bag. And so I offered to carry her bag for her. She declined and got upset; she started going on this rant about gender roles and how I “shouldn't do that to women.” Naturally... I said something along the lines of "Is that a sensitive area for you?" but she went from irritated... to fuming, and when I tried to explain myself, she went all “never do that again” on me. I wasn't trying to indicate that she is in any way incapable; I just wanted to lighten her burden. I had not thought this through any further, but apparently she had.
I thought because she responded so strongly to a situation I considered to be nothing, I must've done something quite red flaggy in her eyes, so I took it as a hint and went home thinking it simply wasn't a match. But the next day she texted me, asking why I didn't kiss her, also stating how she "desperately tried to make clear" she was into me.
I'm a very "offer you the clothes off my back" type of person, and I mean to gain nothing; it doesn't occur to me. Either way, I've never gotten this response before, so I genuinely didn't know what hit me. Any thoughts?
