My First Ordinary Day - how I'm feeling after almost 3 years free

I still drink coffee most mornings.

That used to be our thing though.

I remember the first cup without you.

I stopped needing sugar with my cream.

There’s sunlight coming through the curtains I picked out and

The gold flecks of dust in the air flit with newborn bravery.

I can do anything I want now!

Oh shit, what do I do?

Nobody’s here to yell at them.

Or twist my words round’, caressing my cheek.

No more secret meetings between you.

No more planning my escape.

I’m free and I can breathe now and it’s

My first ordinary day.

I know life’s changing now,

and true, things may get hard

But I just unwrapped my new blankets

They don’t have your scent

I bought them weeks ago, and waited

This coffee and blanket are everything.

Nobody’s coming to save me.

I’m thrilled at the adventure.

I think I’m gonna fix some bacon too,

I’ve got work in about 2 hours.

I think I’ll try that new shampoo I got

When I was hiding from you and paying bills.

And I’m gonna wash my face with the promises

I’ve made myself for twenty years.
