Is a women's large the same as a guys large?

Hi,

For halloween I (M20) may want to dress up as Ariel from the Little Mermaid. I'm normally a large in shirts, I just wanted to ask if a women's large is the same as a man's large, or if I'm going to have to take my measurements, which I don't know.

Thank you!!
