English language resources relating to firefighting terminology and equipment.
Hello! I've agreed to help with some translation work for a friend and it covers a lot of firefighting. It's proving to be quite the challenge at times; though as anyone who speaks multiple languages knows, there is not always an exact translation.
I have had some luck using google to find terms like standpipe and coupling spanner or finding terminology in documents outlining procedures for more specific situations, such as road collisions and hazardous substances, but was wondering if you guys could possibly help me out with links or even book recommendations for a better overall understanding of English-speaking firefighting: types of vehicles, specific firefighting equipment, types of incidents, descriptions of the progression of a fire - pretty much anything you could conceivably come across.
We're not specifically aiming for a certain flavor of English so material from any country is welcome; though I know there can be some major differences between countries or even between neighbouring regions.
I've already found some training videos on youtube, a copy of "Firefighting essentials" from IFSTA and a "Manual of Firemanship" which seems to be from the UK home office.
I hope this is the right place to post, if not a better suggestion would be much appreciated.
