Brave page links acting weird

Hi, So when i open a new tab, there are a few links on this page and i noticed recently, sometimes but very rarely i click gmail and it goes to a random site. When this happens (on mouse hover) i see a white square outline in the bottom right of the gmail icon. So i am assuming this is malware or something?
