Roofer broke water line
We just bought a home that needed a roof repair about a month ago. The previous owners said they needed to money from the sale in order to pay for replace the roof, so we agreed to an escrow holdback because we needed a new roof per our loan agreement. (In hindsight this sucked, because it made the previous owners not liable for what happened since we owned the home at the time of roof replacement, so I wanted to include so maybe someone could learn from our experience.)
The roofer busted a pipe while replacing the shingles and damaged some drywall. Roofer’s insurance found him not at fault because he subcontracted out a different crew. The subcontracted roofer is denying culpability because they said the pipe was too close to the roof and not up to code, and they haven’t given me their insurance information. I feel they should still provide their insurance information, and if what they say holds water, then fine their insurance will side with them.
Any advice?
