2 Time Zones, based on hour-based UTC offsets
India is quite vast longitudnally, it clearly needs two time zones, one for the west and the centre, and one for the east, as it's clearly evident by the difference in times of sunrise and sunset in Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.
Longitudnally, India should lie in the +5 and the +6 offsets, but we make do with +5.5.
Here's a map, with red states having the +5 offset, and the blue states having the +6 offsets, only the state of Chhatisgarh was the difficult one to decide, as it lies in both the offsets almost equally, all other states lie in one offset majorly.
Benefits:
- Aligns to the international standard of hour based offsets
- Less loss of daylight in the eastern states
- More accurate time zones (closer to the local time).
