Is asking your advisor to mostly email okay?

I don't like to call, and my advisor calls at terrible times. I would rather see all the information in type, in front of me, and not have to call for every question. I appreciate being able to look back on emails in case I want to double check the answer. Every time I email, however, my advisor tries to respond by phone and doesn't really give me answers in email.

Would it be okay to ask to just chat through email?

I am also considering to request a different advisor. I've chatted with other advisors when mine is not available, and they often seem more with it and understanding than mine.
