I don’t know if breaking up with my boyfriend was the right thing to do

Support Needed 🫂

i recently broke up with my boyfriend after 4 years because i started to realise that i shouldn’t have to constantly beg for him to just be able to show that he loves me. for context, this has been a recurring problem throughout the relationship, i always feel like he prioritises his friends and many other aspects of his life over me, and i understand that, it’s good to have ambitions and goals and i would love to support him with them. but i’ve only ever felt so lonely in the relationship, i felt like an option. four years and i have never received a single flower despite the fact that i have asked him so many times. four years and it still feels like i’m not important to him. i’ve tried communicating this to him, i really have, but it just ends up with him telling me that he isn’t responsible for my feelings and shutting it out. so i left, i’ve tried to before but it alwyas ended up with me running back to him because it just felt safe with him even though it hurt, ironic right? every time this happens he treats me good for a while, he tells me he will compromise, but then it all goes away in a weeks time. but ever since i’ve brought up the breakup, he’s been trying so hard to talk me out of it, he asks me to spend time and he tells me all these things he can change to make me happier. i don’t know what i’m doing, and i’m still getting second thoughts about this. i have the constant fear that what if this was the wrong choice, because now that he’s treating me good i feel so guilty for turning away because he says i’m giving up on something with great potential. i always hear from older couples that forgiveness is key, but i also don’t know if i can give him anymore chances. it took me so much courage to finally be able to pull away, but now i’m not sure again.
