The majority of people probably do not understand holidays.

People often complain of commercialization of holidays by companies trying to make money and how it has lost its meaning among other things. However, the reality is that most people don't understand the deeper meaning behind holidays. They will instead see it as a time to have vacation from the stress of school or work. Or even a day to indulge themselves (such as Christmas being to get a gift they want or Thanksgiving to enjoy delicious food or Easter to play scavanger hunt games among other things). Or even to bond with friends and family while having no idea about the origin of the holiday. It really is not big corporations who have ruined holidays and commercialized them but simply human nature. With the whole idea of the time when people understod holidays before corrupt corporations ruined them being only an idealized fantasy out of touch with reality.
