Is there no end?
I'm going to try and not get too existential or cynical here, but ever since the HBO remake was officially announced, I find myself rolling my eyes more often than usual. For the most part, I've accepted that the entertainment industry is not letting go of remakes anytime soon (and frankly, some of them are pretty good), yet what really gets me with Harry Potter is the time gap.
It's been under 15 years since the last film in the series, and they're already planning a total rehashing? Is there really no better options for storytelling these days? Despite its faults, the Fantastic Beasts series actually did well in exploring another part of the Potter-verse. Fans have been clamoring for a Founders or Marauders exploration for years, so even within the source material there is tons of potential for original storytelling.
When the HBO series premieres, I'll have to see if there's any part of me that wants to view it. They definitely do good work, but I feel like it might be one of those things that can't be unseen, whether you liked it or not.
