Colosseum tickets at 1 am?

I'm reading all the threads about how to get colosseum tickets and getting very discouraged. Is this really the only way to get tickets, getting up at 1:00 a.m. and then maybe not even getting tickets? Even if you're willing to pay more through a third party? Or are third parties always sketchy? I am looking at October 23rd.
