Leronlimab Beat Resmetirom, Let's Be Clear About That

I'm making this it's own post because my comment was buried at the bottom of the last post and I think it's important for people to see.

Leronlimab monotherapy (700 mg) appears to have better anti-fibrotic activity compared to Resmetirom (p=0.057).

The Leronlimab monotherapy arm absolutely outperformed the Resmetirom arm, the question is was it due to Leronlimab or due to something else. A p-value measures the confidence of repeating the results, so in this case there is a 94.3% chance of Leronlimab beating Resmetirom if the study were run again. They used the word "appears" because a p-value of 0.057 is considered "not statistically significant" by 0.007.

We have no idea how many mice were used in this study so it may just be that a low number of mice were used (aka the study wasn't powered enough) and that discrepancy would grow with a more powered study. Maybe something else caused our mice to have more anti-fibrotic activity (unlikely at p=0.057, but possible). Things we also don't know from this short PR:

  1. What percent of mice showed improvement in fibrosis?
  2. How much did it beat Resmetirom by (could be a little, could be a lot)?
  3. How much fibrosis reversal was seen (could be a little, could be a lot)?
  4. How much did the 700mg dose beat the 350mg dose by?

Being that we don't know the answer to a lot of questions regarding the data yet, no one can say how we would stack up against other drugs that are already running trials. Anyone who tells you they can is either wrong or lying to you.
