First review of the new AI-assisted gun controller + Time Crisis kit.

Discussion

Translated from a review by "GameWatch" a Japanese publication. I highlighted some things I thought were noteworthy.

You can try out "G'AIM'E" in the center of the Takusei Denki booth (Hall 7 N04, jointly operated with Pioneer). You can play the original "Time Crisis" with an AI-equipped gun controller. There is also a pedal-type controller.

"G'AIM'E" consists of a main unit with the original "Time Crisis" built in, and an AI-equipped gun controller. Of particular note is the AI-equipped gun controller, which uses a camera on the gun barrel to recognize the LCD monitor and automatically adjust the aim. Therefore, by connecting the devices together, you can play immediately without any adjustments, regardless of the size or distance of the monitor.

When I actually played the game, I definitely felt like the gun was aimed in the direction I was pointing it, and the aim didn't gradually shift as I continued playing. Not only was there no problem with the gameplay, but the experience of releasing the pedal to hide and reload, then stepping on the pedal to fight was nostalgic and fun, and I found myself getting engrossed in it. By the way, even if you don't have a pedal, the button on the bottom of the gun can serve the same purpose.

This is the AI-equipped gun controller from "G'AIM'E." It has a nice design that makes it easy to hold. On the main unit, the original "Time Crisis" logo is visible. There is an HDMI for connecting a monitor, a USB-C for power supply, and two USB-C for connecting the gun controller and pedal controller. The Pedal controller is included in the deluxe "Premium Pack."

I thought it was playable enough as it is, but the version available at the booth was a prototype with a large delay. Specifically, the current lag of 25ms is planned to be reduced to 12-13ms in the final version. If you are planning to try it out at the venue, I recommend you take that into consideration when playing.

As for the gun controller, they are developing it to be versatile so that it can be used with other titles. This "Time Crisis" is just the first release, and it will be a complete product, but they are considering expanding it to include other companies' titles. Therefore, they are also accepting requests for which titles they would like it to be compatible with.

By the way, while they said that they have "no plans" to support home consoles such as the PS5, it is technically possible, so they would like to consider it in the future.

The product is currently under development and is scheduled for release in September 2025. The basic pack, which includes the main unit and gun controller, will be priced at 13,200 yen. A premium pack, which includes a pedal-type controller and various bonuses, is scheduled for 18,700 yen. We'll be keeping an eye on its development to see if it becomes a new standard for easy-to-use gun controllers.
