Character selection for a new player ?

Hello, I've recently started playing fighting games with SF6 and I'm having a bit of trouble choosing a main character.

At the very beginning I went for Juri who I liked more for the visual style and the moves, but I'm hesitating with Akuma who for the same kind of reason I like.

The two points that make me doubt are that Juri seems rather difficult to handle and Akuma with its reduced life bar.

I'd like to have your opinion or guide to choose as a newbie, is one or the other better for beginners?

(PS: I tried to duel with a friend who recently started with me and I got destroyed, which puts me even more in doubt about my choices)
