TIL 'soft soldering' plumbing joints is not allowed in Australia.. yet you can buy the stuff at Bunnings...

I came across this purely by accident, though admittedly I'm a big fan of all those building shows on YouTube. In the USA shows, its really common for the plumber to 'sweat the pipes', and solder the joints in residential plumbing. This arvo I found out the same is not true for Australia, and 'soft solder' can't be used, only brazing (which is like borderline welding compared to soldering).

What the heck! I know for a fact you can buy 'plumbing solder' willy nilly in Bunnings nation wide.

Are Bunnings breaking the law or something? Are the yanks doing yesteryear plumbing that should be banned?
