PMDD Brisbane, AU
Writing because I'm a bit in shock.
Whilst it took me a long time to be diagnosed I ended up seeing a perinatal psychatrist whom didn't brush over any of the damages of pmdd.
He determined and did a report stating my PMDD was intertwined with trauma excessively.
He also did a report outlining disability effects from it, as well as treatment options that are best suited to those with adhd and cptsd as well.
He also wrote about how my mensturation and luteal phase effects flashback content and grounding. Suggesting I don't do therapy until my PMDD is sorted and focused on.
He also wrote a letter to the GP outline the effects and credible risks of ignoring the advice and more serious interventions.
He sent a referral to the gynecologist as well because my doctor wanted me to have scans which I couldn't do without flashbacks**
I went to the gynecologist today, explained my symptoms and his referral vs a GPs and why he referred instead and the gynecologist was so lovely about it. She acknowledged as well a SA history and how that impacts treatment and options for scans etc and explained that the process she doesn't want to be traumatising so it didn't make sense to have to get new scans everytime a referral was made ( My GP wanted this and it borderline made me hysterically cry because I didn't want a internal ultrasound without proper supports).
I start hormone treatment and chemical menopause in two weeks. I'm terrified of the ongoing costs because I've been disabled with ^ all of the above.
I can't tell if I want to cry or feel relief. There was no disbelief. No minimisation. No discussion or attempts for the gynecologist to convince me to try more birth control etc.
She explained gels that could help * that she stated would not help with pain. She explained birth control * which I most likely wouldn't respond too as I hadn't before.
I do want kids but actively recognize that I am disabled by the PMDD and we spoke about that.
Genuinely was shocked just at the level of understanding their was. My perinatal psychatrist knew exactly what was occuring, understood I also experienced incontinence, fainting and white outs as well. Understood and could explain why it was classified as a disability and also did a write up for the NDIS on the condition as you can list it as a disability with co-morbid diagnosis.
After years of frank bulls***t from the medical profession it was interesting to see a GP get told to not ignore instructions.
My psychatrist also wrote notes for my psychologist and trauma treatment as trauma treatment is effected for those with PMDD with it being more effective at specific times of the month.
Who... freaking... new?
That's my rant. Thank you for listening.
