Am I asking for too much?

My boyfriend (21M) and I (21F) have been together for 5 years. He rarely does anything sweet/romantic for me. I used to have the “if he wanted to, he would” mindset and would easily get upset if he didn’t do something that I would want him to do even if I haven’t communicated it/asked him to do it. I’ve since then matured and have realized that he can’t read my mind. I thought that maybe communicating my needs and wants to him would change things, but it hasn’t. I’ve told him probably more than 10 times (not exaggerating) that I’d want him to be a bit more romantic. I told him he doesn’t need to do anything grand or spend too much money. Simple things like giving me a flower he spots on the way home, giving me a handwritten letter or setting up an online date (we’re currently living 2 hours apart) like playing an online game together are some examples of things I would want him to do. Whenever I tell him this, he always says he’s sorry he isn’t romantic enough and that he’ll try to change, but I still have never seen him do any of the things I’ve asked for even when I’ve communicated these things to him. I know he isn’t really a romantic person, but I really want him to work on it as we’re not even married yet and we’ve already become too comfortable. I just don’t want to lose the spark too fast. Am I asking for too much?

TL;DR I’ve asked my boyfriend numerous times to be a bit romantic but he still hasn’t done anything about it.
