Why People Pay $250 to Get Rid of Their Free Pianos (And How I Profit From It)

Every single day there are 50-60 free pianos listed within 40 miles of me on FB Marketplace.

Free Piano on Facebook Marketplace

Here's exactly how we scale that to a $2,500/day business:

It all started when i saw this reply to one of my posts on that other platform.

My spidey senses went up so fast after reading this that I almost fainted from sheer exhaustion.

So I had to reach out to the guy and dig deeper...

It's a moving company.

When business is slow they troll FB Marketplace and charge $250 to come take free pianos.

That's it.

That's the whole business model, in 53 words.

But why would people ever pay this??

It's quite simple, my friends...

Most don't get claimed but it's still gotta go!

Way more supply than demand.

AND you still gotta pay to tune these things.

Free ain't free.

The founder of got junk said, and I quote, "As long as pianos weigh 600 pounds we'll be in business."

Okay but...

How does someone start this?

Well, I kinda told you in the top screenshot:

  1. Send a ton of FB Messages.
  2. Get a few yeses at varying price points.
  3. Grab a friend.
  4. Rent a U-Haul. $49.95/day plus $.99 per mile.
  5. Pick up pianos
  6. Dispose of Pianos
  7. Profit.

YES, it's a shame to throw pianos away.

But let's be realistic.

DFW has ~20K unwanted pianos PER YEAR!

You can't donate that many, & they cost $ to be tuned

We're a nation of consumers. We buy and throw away. I hate it.

But give me a better option thats realistic & sustainable.
