Aemetis Biogas Completes Initial Construction Phase of Multi-Dairy Digester, Biogas Production to Begin by End of 2024
Exciting news for the renewable energy space! Aemetis, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMTX), a key player in the renewable natural gas (RNG) and renewable fuels industry, has just announced the completion of the initial construction phase of a multi-dairy anaerobic digester in Merced County, California. This digester is set to process waste from 14,000 dairy cows from four local dairies, and it’s expected to start producing over 200,000 MMBtu of RNG per year by the end of 2024.
This is just one part of Aemetis’ broader push to scale up their biogas production. The company already generates about 300,000 MMBtu of RNG annually from ten dairy digesters, but with the multi-dairy digester and two additional digesters coming online, they’ll be ramping up production to 550,000 MMBtu per year across 16 dairies. The RNG they produce earns them credits under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and starting in 2025, they’ll also benefit from Production Tax Credits via the Inflation Reduction Act.
Aemetis is also looking beyond the current project, with 48 dairies already signed up to contribute to their Central Dairy Project, and plans to expand that to a total of 75 dairies. When fully operational, Aemetis expects the project to produce more than 1.6 million MMBtu per year of RNG, driving projected annual revenues of $250 million.
With these developments, Aemetis is making big strides toward scaling sustainable energy production and reducing carbon intensity. It’s great to see more innovation in the biogas space, especially when it’s linked to agricultural waste management and renewable energy!
What do you all think? Could this project be a game-changer in RNG and renewable energy?
