Inconsistent share (via share sheet) to Messages behavior

Curious if anyone else is encountering this inconsistent behavior on iOS 18. The behavior occurs when I share something to Messages via share sheet--e.g. sending a photo to a frequent contact. I open the photo, tap the share icon, then tap my contact's icon. The New Message pane slides up and the picture is inserted into the message. If it has been a longer amount of time since I've shared something, the cursor will appear in the To: field after my addressee. Expecting it to be in the "Add comment or Send" field, I will start typing my message only to have it start searching for additional contacts to add. I have to delete the inadvertent text, then tap down into the "Add comment or Send" field to begin my message. After I send that message--or even if I cancel the message, return to the share sheet, and tap the contact from the share sheet to begin a new message--on subsequent attempts the cursor will appear in the "Add comment or Send" field and I can immediately begin typing my method. I don't know how long it takes to reset to inserting the cursor in the Contacts field---I have tested by waiting 5-10-15 minutes and it does not revert, but I know after hours it will revert. Does anyone else encounter this?
