Black Myth: Wukong - Nvidia Modeset Error
Trying to play BMW, and I can't get past the tutorial because I randomly get an error that causes my monitor to stop receiving input from the GPU. The screen goes to sleep, and the computer is inaccessible until I do a hard reset.
Here is the error code from checking the system log after reboot: nvidia-modeset: ERROR: GPU:0: Failed to query display engine channel state: 0x0000c67e:6:0:0x0000000f
I am running the game on Proton, Linux Mint kernel 6.8.0-45-generic. Computer is very new, with a 4080 super, and I'm playing with the graphics settings all turned up (except for frame generation since it was inaccessible in Proton). Temps do not go above 67C and both power and memory are ample.
Troubleshooting steps I have tried:
- Reinstalled latest nvidia driver 550 and upgraded all packages.
- Tried both Proton Experimental and 9.0-3. Haven't tried GE since I wouldn't know what to customize.
- Tried different port for the displayport cable, tried HDMI cable.
I'm new to Linux, and it feels a bit like I'm shooting in the dark trying to hit something that I couldn't spot in the broad daylight.
I would really appreciate some guidance here. This modeset issue is difficult for me to diagnose, and having to hard reset the computer each time is concerning, or at least time consuming for troubleshooting.
