When do I go back/is there even anything they can do?

Injury

Hi, I broke a finger yesterday in several places. I went to the emergency room and they did X-rays and said it will require surgery but that because it was a Friday night they weren’t going to operate and I’d follow up with orthopedic surgery next week. So today I did my best to proceed with life as normal, I went to work (I’m a barista) and did what I could. It got to the point where I couldn’t speak through the extreme pain I was going through, I nearly fainted and my ears were ringing from the pain, so I was sent home. When I got home I took one of the hydrocodones I was prescribed, and it only took the pain down maybe 1 notch (if that,) so given all of this, my question is at what point would I know I need to go back to the ER or is there even anything they can do (ie, could they take it out of the cast/numb it again)?

I feel like this is a stupid question but I’ve just never experienced pain that has made me vomit/faint/ears ring before 🥲
