Is it time to abandon my google account?

My google account is close to 20 yrs old now. It's based on my name. While it's not too common apparently it's common enough. So I keep receiving email that belongs to others, some by mistake other phishing probably.

When I got the email in 2005/2006 I was young and used this email address everywhere. In 2006/2007 I joined a linux forum and recently (within last few years) because of issue in the site or something my is displayed in plain text on the forum and with that I started to get progressively greater number of spam email. Now I am getting approx 40 spam messages a day that are not getting filtered by google spam filters.

Since I've had this address for most of my life and is based on my name I don't want to give It up. But I don't think it's going to get better.

What would you have done if you were in my place?
