I (26F) can't fight the urge to keep snooping in my boyfriends (30M) text messages after finding texts he shouldn't have been sending on a few occasions. Is this relationship even fixable?
We've been together for about 2 years and overall things have been pretty awesome. We're super close and hardly fight about anything. The only arguments we've really had were about things I found in his phone. I've found him texting his long term ex on 4 or 5 occasions, the first being a couple months into our relationship and the most recent being a response he sent last month and once she answered the convo didn't continue. I also found a couple of texts from when he was out of town on a trip with a few of his guy friends, where he clearly got two different girls phone numbers and proceeded to text them and call them cute while attempting to make plans. Those two girls didn't end up responding which is the only reason I believe it didn't go any further.
That was nearly the end of our relationship but I gave in and decided to just forget and look past it. The texts were from several months ago however I only found them maybe 2 months ago. The problem is that I definitely haven't looked past or forgotten anything and I am incredibly resentful. However, I also love him so much and beside what I just mentioned, this is the most loving and kind relationship I've ever been in.
With this newfound lack of trust has come a serious urge to snoop through his messages pretty much daily. I think the fact that I found those texts so late and had spent the time in between them being sent to me finding them just so head over heels in love basically has me in a mindset where I think I have to protect myself and by checking and not finding anything I feel like I can allow myself to show him love and not withhold based on the gut feeling that it's happening again.
Does that make sense or not at all? Lol. I've been cheated on when I was in high school and I've always vowed that I would NEVER allow myself to be in a situation where I'm with someone who I have such little trust for that I have to do things like check their texts. I've always believed that the second you feel like you have to do that, the relationship is pretty much over. Yet for some reason I'm struggling to apply this in my own life right now.
Would you consider a relationship over and unrepairable once trust is totally and entirely broken?
