I (30 F) Called for a Welfare Check on my Best Friend (30 F). Do I Owe Her an Apology?

AITAH for Calling for a Welfare Check

My best friend of about 18 years (we’re in our early 30s) has been increasingly making jokes and comments about suicidal ideation over the last 6 or so months, this is very out of character for them. They assured me they were trying to find a therapist and did not want help with finding a therapist and calling to schedule.

My friend informed me of their plan, means, intent, and date they will be completing suicide. We talked about it for hours and they were set on their decision.

This friend has an elementary school aged child who my friend adamantly hates; the child knows she is hated and spent a couple years in foster care after my friend broke her arm out of rage when she was a toddler. She refuses to engage in planning for where her child would go and is neglectful and abusive.

She was making passive threats toward her child’s safety on the day she reported her plans to complete suicide; after not responding to my texts or the phone call I made for 8 hours my friend informed me CPS had her child as her child was lying to the school saying she (my friend) was going to kill her.

I called CPS immediately and informed them of the conversations I had been having with my friend through the day and of the past CPS history (she left the state I am in to get away from that and is now in a new state).

Overnight, my friend reported her daughter is back with her.

The next day I checked on my friend to see if she was still feeling committed to completing suicide, she made passive statements indicating she was. All my other friends thought I should call for a welfare check. My friend and her household are homeless, they bounce from their car to various motels, with that being said the only known address for her is her workplace.

I called local police, explained the scenario, and asked for a welfare check. The officers called me back and she told them she never said anything about being suicidal. I sent them the screenshots and have no idea what happened from there as she blocked me on everything.

Do I owe her an apology if she ever unblocks me? I’m worried for both of them and being a very long distance away I’m limited in what I can do.
