In minneapolis?

Brits pub is probably the best place to watch soccer matches in Minneapolis. I highly recommend it if you've never been there before.

And that is an outstanding picture.

I was there last summer for a couple of the Euro matches, I love when they open up the Club Room and upstairs patio. Probably my favorite place in Minneapolis (so far).

Try going during the world cup. They setup a giant projection screen on the lawn bowling green on the roof and everyone sits on the green and watches the games. It is absolutely packed with people but so much fun!

Agreed! The Local is okay, and I've never been The Nomad. My group of friends and I usually go to Brit's on Sunday mornings when the EPL is going on. We also went to see the champions league.. it was so packed. We had to get there at 11am to get good seats (and the game didnt start till 1:45pm)

Thank you! :)

The Local is great, don't know what you are on.

Yep. Brit's Pub is on Nicollet Mall.

I like Brits Pub as well, but they're very European in their soccer fandom. There's nothing wrong with that, but I prefer NASL / MLS, and I don't get the vibe that they're big supporters.

The few times I've been there, they seemed indifferent to the MNUFC people. Not rude or anything, just kinda... meh. The Nomad on the other hand, seems to be ground zero for all things Dethloon.

For some reason one of my biggest pet peeves is people wearing EPL jerseys of teams that do not have an American on the team to watch the Yanks.

She looks okay in it to me.

do not have an American on the team to watch the Yanks.

I don't really understand what you mean here? They don't have an American on the team to watch Americans?

Are you annoyed that an American follows an EPL team? Why would that be annoying?

I think the idea here is that you're going to watch a USMNT match, and you're wearing a shirt that has nothing to do with the USMNT. If, say, you were wearing a Tottenham shirt, there would at least be the Dempsey connection.

This isn't my personal issue, but that is how I read the original post.

Chelsea has no Americans, so he doesn't think that jersey choice is best for the situation.

If that's what he meant - That's assuming a lot of things. That's assuming I'm American, that I have no connection to England / Chelsea... and since when does it matter if you're the same nationality as one of the players on the team? Most of Chelsea isn't even English. Most of Minnesota United aren't from the US, let alone Minnesota.

For those who are upset by people who follow EPL or La Liga instead of MLS, not everyone cares about MLS. I do my part and go to MN United games, I support them (I have a MN United t-shirt), but I don't understand why people can't like both or support a team in a different league as well.

If it's because I wore a Chelsea jersey to a USA match - who fucking cares? It's nice to see who is there for soccer and who is there for food. Not that it matters, but I had just gotten the kit in the mail yesterday so of course I'd want to wear it.

All of this snobbiness is garbage, in my opinion. We're all here because we love soccer. Get over yourselves.

Frankly, I could care less what teams anybody supports as long as they're not deliberately ignoring their own local club.

Sorry? Seems like you're projecting quite a bit.

I follow two teams: Minnesota and Newcastle. Most of us here follow an EPL team more than an MLS team I would say.

I'll have to burn my Spurs Bale jersey!

3
epookaOP•

Yup! Sorry, you have to buy the kit for the highest level team that is closest to the hospital which you were born at, and support them no matter what! Anything else is treason, you heathen!

Sweet baby Jesus, I guess this means I have to support Detroit City FC? Actually, their supporters are pretty rad, so it could be worse.

I was getting reports that Brit's only staffed one server for the USMNT watch party. True or no?

3
mnnicefcRed Loons•

that's been one of the reasons I avoid Brits and the Local. The games are on, but I've always felt like I was caught up in a mixed crowd and kind of in the way (the circulation in Brits is terrible) and that soccer is permitted, but not embraced. I am glad, however, that there is Brits, Sweetwater, the Local, and the Nomad. I prefer Nomad, but everyone can have their place and there are still people to join you.

5
epookaOP•

True. I felt so bad for him.

2
bornwithatail_Dark Clouds•

Ouch! I'd say that if Brit's wants to attract a soccer crowd, they need to be able to actually provide service to us. Think I'll be sticking to Nomad for a while. (which is a shame because Brit's is about 2 blocks from my office)

3
zoob32Minnesota United FC•

The Local is probably closer than Nomad then, plus they show pretty much every soccer game. I've been at the Local at 7:00 in the morning before they open up and they let you in to watch.

3
epookaOP•

I think my last comment got an error message -- but yeah. They do seem to be understaffed more often than not. What kind of games and events do they have at Nomad?

bornwithatail_Dark Clouds•

Well, this Saturday evening they'll be displaying a little team called Minnesota United, who will be attempting to storm the Carolina Railhawks' fortress. Stop on by!
