Breastfeeding vs formula questions
I’m a FTM, 33w. SAHM.
What are your thoughts on breastfeeding vs formula?
I had planned on doing breastfeeding this whole pregnancy until I recently had my baby shower.
One of my cousins that breastfed said it was super hard and increased her PPD/PPA levels to where she had to stop after a few months for her mental health.
Another cousin said she tried really hard to do it but after 2 months and baby wasn’t gaining weight well, the doctor had her switch to formula.
My mom and sister were never able to breastfeed.
I’ve had pretty bad prenatal depression/anxiety, I had to seek help from doctor and sources. I’ve discussed getting on anxiety meds after baby is born (been on them before) but not sure exactly cause I didn’t do well on meds before.
My husband is gone during the week and sometimes weekends for weeks at a time for work. I’m worried about being up every 1.5-2 hours with baby while having to take care of the house/pets/everyday responsibilities all in my own.
I’ve taken a breastfeeding class and it was VERY overwhelming for me. Lots of things to do, holding positions and rules etc.
I know breastfeeding is generally better for the baby but can formula be just as healthy for baby too?
If you choose to just formula feed do you have to buy a breast pump? Does your milk just not come in? How does that work?
