I’m sick of good faith criticism of a celebrity/influence being lumped in with the crazy over the top deranged online weirdos

It always goes like this; a creator does something that isn’t good, but also isn’t insanely bad (like something that’s illegal). Usually it’s making an overpriced product (like Marques’s wallpaper app) or saying something inappropriate and mean, but not anything against minority groups; (think Pokimane’s broke boy comment regarding her cookies)

I wish there was a term for this phenomenon because I see it employed all the damn time whenever the next onion controversy happens. It’s always:

Creator does something out of touch/rude/inappropriate > good faith criticism starts > people take it too far and send death threats and act crazy over the top about it > defenders of said creators see this and assume anyone who is criticizing said creator must also be a crazy person, completely ignoring the rational good faith critics

People give reasonable criticism at first and say “hey I don’t think that was okay”, but then other people take it too fair and send death threats and hyperbolize how what this creator did was the worst thing ever.

All that reasonable criticism gets drowned out in a sea of hate, so much to the point that any time someone comes out with the reasonable criticism without the hater energy, they’re automatically dismissed and assumed to belong to the hater faction because it’s louder and draws more attention to themselves.

I think this is super unproductive and not at all helpful because by generalizing all criticism of someone as “hater ass bitches” essentially you’re not separating the crazies from the normies.
