Meta-analysis on experimental drugs? Is this a reasonable idea?

STEM

I'm doing a post-doc.

My PI got invited to a collaboration with a student in a systematic review and metanalysis.

This student wants to do their proyect on drugs that are already well studied, but the novelty of his proyect is that he wants to mix-in publications from new medications that are still experimental (Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials) and call that the novelty of his proyect.

I'm kind of an expert on these drugs (my PI is not, this is kind of my personal research field), I have publications, book chapters, etc. So when I saw the proposal, I inmediately recognized that among the drugs list, there were a few weird names and instantly thought they were some experimental drugs I've read/wrote about previously and indeed they were.

I pointed that maybe it wasn't a good idea to add those drugs in the study and better stick with what is already approved. The student flipped. He got mad that I could suggest that there was something wrong with his perfect research idea that "has been prized multiple times for his originality".

This is kind of annoying tbh, I don't need this proyect and definitely won't deal with the attitude. Still, I would like to be sure before dropping out, is it a good idea to add these experimental drugs to the study?

I know that people do meta-analysis on Phase 2 data to gather enough evidence to justify doing a Phase 3 trial, but this is different...

At least, I haven't seen this done before. Otherwise everybody would be doing meta-analysis on experimental drugs.... What do you thing?
