What's with the widespread hate for Kristina and the actress who plays her?
Like on here, Twitter/X, and other soap forums there's always a group of people waiting to complain about her every time she appears on screen. No matter what she does (or doesn't do), she's painted as a raging narcissist who is the worst character and should immediately be fired.
For example, the fallout after Sam's death. First people complain that she's acting too cold and not having enough emotion. Then later when she yells at God in the chapel, people complain she's being too dramatic and making Sam's death all about herself... even though she was completely alone? And Alexis did the same thing in Sam's hospital room, but that was (rightfully) praised as a highly emotional and realistic portrayal of a mother's grief.
I just notice there's this weird double standard where anything Kristina does is treated as automatically selfish and bratty by the fans.
And people's justification seems to be "Kristina was going to steal Molly and TJ's baby!" (an oversimplification of the situation) and "It's her fault the baby died" (which is just not true?)
I do not agree with Kristina considering taking full custody for the baby, to be clear, but I don't think it was as simple as her doing it just to be cruel. One of the first things they tell people about surrogacy is to pick someone with children of their own/has been pregnant before. This is because it can be harder to override the natural instincts (that it's your child to love and raise, to protect no matter what) if it's your first pregnancy and first child.
She bonded with the child and ended up underestimating how hard it would be to give the baby up, especially when she saw the baby's future parents fighting more often. Which on a side note, Molly and TJ treated Kristina for pretty poorly pregnancy. Less like their sister/sister-in-law who'd they'd both known and loved for years...more like an incubator who only existed to grow their baby.
Kristina getting upset after walking in on her dad beating up Dex is twisted into her intentionally endangering the baby (not once did they ask her if she was okay).
Kristina not going into detail about her sister's fertility issues on national TV without her consent (arguably much worse) is interpreted as her publicly staking her claim on the baby. And again, neither one of them asked if she was okay after her girlfriend was outed, they were both bombarded by the press, and she was pushed out the charity center she'd built up herself.
And then, Kristina falling out of a window, nearly dying, and losing the baby is painted as her fault too. Because... somehow she should have known beforehand that "I shouldn't go talk to Ava about the subpoena, I'll probably get shoved out a window and fall three stories into a pool?". It makes zero sense.
At least with that, they finally showed some amount of concern for Kristina as her life hung in the balance.
Then the whole Irene/Adela issue. That just goes along with Kristina bonding with the baby since she was carrying it and had never done so before (greatly underestimating how powerful it'd be and how much it'd effect her).
I'm not saying that everyone has to like or love the character and the writing (especially not the writing honestly), but it just seems like people are being overly harsh. I've always liked the character and while I miss the original actress (Lexi Ainsworth), I think Kate Mansi has been doing a great job with the character so far. Especially with what poor writing she was given with the surrogacy plotline, most annoying storyline of the year.
