How do people find girlfriends? Seriously. Idk what I'm doing

Im so used to heternormative life where men make the moves. So I don't really know how to approach women. Or tell if they are queer.

I am a college student so I know there are lots of lesbians and bi girls around. I just don't know how to find them, get to know them, and then ask them out.

Im really shy so I struggle with talking in general. Like, I want to get to know a person even just to be friends before I make a move. But my rizz is a negative.

Is my best bet to join an lgbtq organization?
