Do I text her and ask for an explanation?

One of the worst traits somebody can have is lying. I caught my friend up in a lie and all I want is an explanation to why she had to lie. Ima over thinker to the extreme and I just want to know why? It bothers me so much not knowing the reason. I brought it up and she got defensive about it. It’s been a few days should I message her and ask again? Or Wait until she messages me. Idk if she was lying to protect me from hurting my feelings or something like I’m not sure.
