I’m no longer being controlled by food
For as long as I can remember I’ve struggled with all kinds of disordered eating. It started as anorexia when I was a preteen, developed into EDNOS, and then eventually became a binge eating disorder in my early twenties.
I got to my highest weight ever, and I was extremely miserable. I felt I couldn’t focus on the things that mattered in life, because I couldn’t think about anything but food. It’s like my survival instincts kicked in after 10 years of denying myself food, and I couldn’t ever get enough. I’d eat until I was uncomfortably sick. When I couldn’t fit into any of my clothes anymore, I knew I had to make a change.
I heard about Ozempic online but never thought I’d be eligible for that kind of drug, since I was only in the overweight category at the time. However, I knew I would easily become obese quickly at the rate I was gaining weight.
A coworker told me she was going to the med spa to get her weight loss shots. It seemed enticing, but I was scared I’d be denied or the cost wouldn’t be worth it. After a few weeks of thinking about it, I made an appointment and received my first dose of compounder semaglutide.
Within the next day, I could already feel it working. It’s like a switch was flipped in my brain, and all the food noise was gone.
15 weeks later, I am down 20 pounds, and am only 15 pounds away from my goal weight, though I may decide to stop losing sooner than that. I am no longer overweight, and am feeling great about my body.
I would be more than happy to stay at a maintenance dose for the rest of my life. Sure, there are some side effects, like constipation and occasional nausea, but it is 100% worth it to be free from eating disorders.
I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it would help someone in a similar situation as me. While I didn’t/don’t have much weight to lose, the positive mental health effects of this medication is far more important to me.
