Backpacks

I am traveling with one backpack from UK to Dubai, then DBX to Bangkok for the foreseeable. One airline is 7KG, one is 8KG. Are the airlines pretty lenient with backpackers without hood luggage? And if anyone has had to pay because they’re a kilo or two over before, what we’re you paying roughly?
