Conflicted on continuing
I'm in a long-term relationship with someone who is physically disabled, and while we are very compatible, I feel like I entered the relationship out of sympathy and emotional vulnerability rather than true romantic love initially and developed a bond out of "I will provide love to this hurt person" Mentality over the time.
Now when he is getting better, I am not sure about my feelings and continuing this as I feel I am in this sympathy-situation rather than love, I find myself emotionally dependent on him, and he on me. I'm afraid of hurting him and his family if I end things, as they love me and have already been through a lot.
On the other hand, I also fear that I may never find another connection like this and that I might have to compromise on an emotional bond if I end up with someone else. I’ve had doubts since the beginning and he is aware of those but I always push them aside because we get along so well.
Am I thinking too much, or should I take a step back to evaluate whether this relationship is truly fulfilling me? How do I navigate these conflicting feelings without causing unnecessary pain to anyone involved?
