after doing the polar alignment I saw that it is also possible to do the 3-star alignment

i have read that the 3-star alignment does not serve to improve the precision of pointing to the North Star but only to make the Goto system more precise in centering the selected sky objects in the photographic frame, is that so ?

because others say that for example the three-star alignment corrects the error that may be related to the alignment to the North Star and consequently improves the tracking precision but is that true or not ?
