Unreal Engine source build on an external ssd?

I'm thinking of getting a dedicated external ssd or an M.2 with an enclosure to start working on a source build of Unreal as the existing drives on my laptop (2 in total) may not be sufficient with the growing size of a custom build of Unreal. Will that cause any performance problems?

If I get an M.2 nvme ssd, will a 10gbps enclosure be sufficient or should I invest in a 40gbps thunderbolt 4 enclosure?
