MXP VAT Refund

I am traveling to Italy soon and I was wondering if anyone tried getting the VAT refunded by cash at MXP airport.

Is the queue long for that even after scanning the receipts via a kiosk?

I have had a horrible experience before with choosing card refund and not receiving anything (from different airport) so I wanted to know if cash is a better option.
