I am scared of SUDEP
Hey y’all!
My dad has a friend who has a child around the same age of me. Recently, this child died of SUDEP.
My dad pulled me over a few days ago and talked about this with me. He said he never knew someone could die because of seizures. He looked kinda sad and I knew he was thinking “what if” it happened to me.
I tried consoling him, letting him know that my epilepsy isn’t really that bad (I have small focal seizures and haven’t had a grand mal seizure in roughly 6-7 years). But now I’m scared. I always knew SUDEP was a thing, but it was so far from my mind. However, as I’m hitting a similar age to this girl who just died along with the same age as Cameron Boyce I just feel more scared than usual. Like what if I just suddenly die in my sleep??
I know a lot of us on this server have to deal with this what if situation but it’s kinda hitting me heard right now and I’m struggling to rationalize and convince myself that it’s super unlikely it would happen to me.
I don’t drink. I don’t do drugs. I’m super good about taking my meds. And my seizures, even before the meds, were never that bad.
Any advice, logic, or just consoling words would be nice
