ADHD diagnosis as an adult??
I have not been professionally diagnosed with adhd, but I’ve been trying to ask to get assessed for it for awhile now. I’ve struggled for as long as I can remember and the more I research it, the more it makes sense. I’ve struggled with mental health issues too which I think might play a part. I tried asking my doctor about it, and she brushed it off by saying “you can’t focus because you have a history of mental health issues” and then prescribed me a non-stimulant medication and that was that. I feel like I wasn’t heard or didn’t even get a chance to explain how I felt, it wasn’t like I just went in there said “I feel like I can’t focus.” I feel like adhd has become such a “trend” these days especially in the younger generation and people have just thrown around the term like it’s nothing. “I’m so adhd about this” or something like that when it’s a real thing that people struggle with. I don’t want to be viewed as a young person trying to “hop on the trend.” I switched medical providers and am now seeing an NP but I haven’t brought up the adhd concern because I’ve been dealing with other health problems recently and I don’t want to be seen as a hypochondriac or something. I’m not sure how to go about this situation and I’m struggling. I also have anxiety and a sleeping disorder so I just never know if what I’m feeling is real or if it’s in my head???? Idk sometimes I feel insane but I just want to know if the reason I have struggled for forever in many aspects in life is actually because of something (like adhd) or if I’m just crazy honestly. I have other medical problems too so sometimes I’m just not sure.
