Churches father’s opinion about reading the canon

Please pardon my English it’s not my native language

A lot of people on the internet are quoting and using the canon of the council freely whereas IRL I saw a lot of attitude more morderate about how to you it. My priest always consult his bishop when he has doubt about canon and never interpret itself. In a serious monastery that I know the higoumene know the canons well but his monks are not allowed to read them (at least they do not posses them he never used the word forbidden but concretely they can’t read them)

On the other aid I never read a churche’s father which advise people to know the canon whereas they advise to read other fathers.

There is even Geronda like Saint Paissios which are very reluctant to let beginner read OT and father’s scripture limiting to NT. And I wonder what he would call a beginner and I guess a lot of people which consider the self expert would be beginner to his eyes.

So concretely I wonder what churche’s father say about reading the canon. I don’t have the time to read a lot of them but for what I read I have the impression that it is not even un recommended but out of their radar.

Do you know more about this ?
