How to paint gems/ barrel lenses?

I’m having such a hard time painting gems/gun lenses. Anyone have any recommendations? I’ve tried the GW specific paints but didn’t like it exactly. I try to do the gradient but it just doesn’t come out good, not sure if I need to water down more or what. Anyone have some easy ways or suggestions?
