How hard is course registration at your schools?

Idk if my school is just infamously stressful during registration, but it's been so hard for me to even get intro classes here as a first year. Last semester I wasn't able to get intro bio because the only section conflicted with the lab for gen chem, so I had to drop bio. This semester I'm going through a similar issue - the only orgo lab currently available conflicts with bio II, so I am basically forced to either drop orgo or bio II. The way people get into the other orgo labs (that don't conflict with bio II) is also really arbitrary (since it's instructor managed and our registration times are random), so I honestly just feel like I've been screwed over multiple times lol.

Is it normal to not be able to get bio and chem in your first year, simply due to scheduling/limited resources at your school?
