Sentient animals characters in my book

Hi to everyone!

I’ve been writing my book for more than 9 years, but just yesterday I started thinking about some stuff…

A lot of characters in my book are animals. Carnivores and herbivores. But there are also some humans there, of course. So my question is, how to play with their food rations?

I’m thinking to make fish not sentient, so carnivorous animals have at least something to eat. And about “bad guys” - they could just eat everything, because they are BAD.

I finished my first book draft when I was 10-11 y.o, so of course I didn’t think about this things.
