Host (2020) - Film A Day 71
“Caroline, you gotta go check it out.”
“Don’t do that. It’s a stupid idea.”
And that's it. That tiny bit of dialogue makes this a 5/5, 10/10, 100%, thumbs up, perfect must-see movie.
I mean, she does go and check it out because she's a character in a movie. But still. At least someone said it.
Oh and a few other things happen in the movie too.
Host (2020) summary:
Six friends hire a medium to hold a seance via Zoom during lockdown, but they get far more than they bargained for as things quickly go wrong.
Before the Zoom call even starts one person hears odd knocking in her apartment and her closet flies open. In the business we call this "foreshadowing".
Our Zoom conference starts, friends pal around, the séance starts, someone makes a joke out of it, and then ghostly things attack everyone. And they all get got.
Most of the gags are pretty good - lightbulbs exploding, invisible people making footsteps, people being pushed and levitated and attacked, stuff flying out of cupboards, and I think a light switched on all by itself one time.
There are also demon face jump scares. Oh well.
Should you watch it? This one's fun for the whole family. Well maybe not my family, but definitely the whole horror family of monsters out there reading this right now. It's well paced, filled with lots of good gags, and honestly the only negative at all is that it's all a bit arbitrary - feels like there's a whole bunch of lore we're missing as to why any of this happened. But outside of that, fantastic stuff.
Next up: The Tunnel (2011). Feels like I just watched this. All I really remember is thinking it was overrated. Don't they just wander around in circles a bit and then... idk. Maybe I'll love it this next time, that does happen.
