UK - Much Tax - No Wow
Income tax, VAT, council tax, stamp duty, road tax... are all expected and happen in different forms in different countries, but their amount around here and what you get in services in return should be somehow seen (?)
I mean the roads are mostly bad, the m25 is quite horrible, trains are shockingly expensive, there is no unemployment benefits or it's so little it's not even worth checking, the state pension is barely pocket money, you have to PAY for your wedding even at a registry (and yes there is the 2+2 option, but 1 there's very little availability and 2 you still have to pay for that), nhs is in such a state, you basically end up going private (if you can, or you don't get the necessary help which is not that uncommon), you buy a flat and then realize that some guy or business or church owns the land and gets to decide of whatever on your behalf, and you if you disagree, it's ok as long as you pay
But UK is still overall taxes as much as France Germany or Iceland (ish). I'm usually taking things with philosophy but really, this is a little frustrating
Apart from that it’s quite chill and beautiful countryside though 🏡
