Therapy- talking about it as if I was still that child

Advice requested

My therapist and me are still preparing eachother for the work ahead. Last session, he told me he'd like me to talk about what I remember from the point of view as if it was happening now and it wasn't me but the kid I used to be. This may be useful but I feel ready to deal with these things because I've become so much stronger than I was then. The mere thought of slipping into the role of this vulnerable, frightened, innocent and helpless thing even for the tiniest moment is terrifying to me. How am I supposed to deal with such memories as the one who couldn't??

Do you think this is a good idea or necessary or would you suggest another way?
