WikiTree Preparing Profiles to Please Google
This week WikiTree rolled out their new Content Rank system, meant to score profiles on their attractiveness to the Google indexing algorithm. The official G2G announcement is here. A previous version of it received much discussion here.
In the announcement, Member W carefully noted (italics in the original) that "Content Rank is not a measure of profile quality. It's essentially about the quantity of content related to a person." The related Help page gives a complete prescription for improving a profile's score, dubbed by some wag the "Content Rank Advancement Protocol." Although the system gives points for sources, clearly the easier path to higher ranking runs through expanding the bio text and adding categories and images.
What do you think of this new development, and especially of its implications for the user experience and tree quality?
