New to the game, thinking of trying again

Just a few things, is the game actually all that hard or are there just puzzles I don't have the answers to?

I remember running around for easily 2 hours at a time sort of at a loss of what to do. Is that normal?

Guess I am sort of asking for some spoiler free guidance
